(L to R: Richard, Haley, Me, Matthew, William)

Ah so the summer is almost over.

To sum it up in one word: busy.

If I learned one thing, it would be to never take school and work at the same time ever again.

Anyways, my brother William got married and it was pretty fun altogether. It went smoothly and everyone was in a good mood! That picture is my favourite of that night and yea...we're all posers, but it's pretty jokes. :)

School has officially started and I already drilled my thumb with a power drill. Basically the drill bit snapped in half and i drilled part of my thumb. Don't worry, no stitches needed and its healing nicely.

I've ushered 2 weddings and another this coming weekend :D which is taking place in waterloo. Should be fun visiting again and seeing some other alumni. Hehe,,,I still have to get used to the fact I'm an alumni now!

Off for now...I'll be back soon!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

yea I havent disappeared.

and wow has this summer passed by quickly.

school is done, so I'm officially a waterloo alumnus...or alumni, whichever is grammatically correct.

yay for a B.Sc. of Science in Kin....now what...hahahaha.

Work is done in a week and it's been a good experience. I wouldn't mind having a break though. I'm going to die when I get a full-time job...haha.

Sigh...wishin this summer was longer.

Anyways, It's my bro's wedding in 2 days. William&Carol's....and being the first in my family, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Should be fun and good times, but I hope it doesn't rain. There's gonna be lots of friends and family and LOBSTER. I'm helping usher and whatever else needs getting done....and our dinner table looks to be quite extreme in terms of loudness and ruckosity. Yea, I just made that word up. Ruckosity. It's like ruckus and intensity mixed up in one giant ball of explosivity. we're gona be loud and we might break some stuff in the process.

Anyways, I'll post pictures up soon :). Everyone's getting dressed up for the occasion so it'll be good to have no one missing for photos.

it's almost my bedtime...so I'll have an update after the wedding and so forth...

I'll leave u with a verse that's been on my mind lately

"One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,
and that you, O Lord, are Loving."
Psalm 62:11

Transformers

It was good...and in the words of Roger Ebert "It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good"

Yeah...Roger Ebert just said REAL GOOD...ITS REALLLL GOOD!!!!! A pulitzer winning writer used REAL GOOD!!!!! Man that's just going to encourage me use it even more.

I can't look at trucks when I drive anymore....I just imagine them transforming into Optimus and kicking some decepticon's ass. I really hope Michael Bay doesn't do the next film...I can only take his cheese so long before it's pure OMGOSHHHH

Oh....we also got perfect seats in the theatre. We do this technique (unnamed technique) to get our seats. You group yourselves in teams of 2 and upon entering the theatre, one of the two goes to the other side of the seats so u block the entire row....then u close in for the kill (kill meaning seats). After counting seats, we sit on the ends thus securing the seats between them. It works like a charm each time. Except this time we totally blocked up the people behind us so bad...lol....but its not like they had to follow us either...there were plenty of seats in the theatre.

Anyways, it was good times....I can't wait for the weekend when I'll be writing my essay all day on sat....yay. The school + work thing is not jiving...but its OK....mccoys will make it all better

im surviving....im learning...im stressing....but its a great experience....:P

Dang its getting crazy. (quick update)

yea....work is picking up, and school work and etc etc.....I saw it coming and now I'm in the middle of it all....only like 9 more weeks of work and 3 courses...I can do this. Christie left for her missions trip to China last friday and won't be back in another 5 weeks. Yeah...it'll be hard, but after learning my parents waited 3 years until they reunited lends me some encouragement. andddd I MUST use this time for mad studying and catching up...hahaha....definitely.

This past weekend I went to grecos in kingston for some greek food with 11 others....4 who were rookies. grecos is mad wicked amazing. Breaded mushrooms, saganaki, and double order of souvlaki makes everything right. It's soo good...anyways...'people' think we're crazy for going into kingston for food, and maybe we are, but we like it a lot and we really don't have to justify anything to anyone...to put it into perspective, we're willing to drive 2 1/2 hours for sick food, good company and an amazing night, while some people are willing to walk around for hours spending money on shopping....not that shopping is bad but we all have diff ways of having fun

We also blew up some stuff in kingston and got into a semi competition with 2 groups nearby. We obviously destroyed them with our awesome display of raw power and mind blowing combination of sparkles and colors. But they seemed to enjoy it.

k gotta sleep....its almost past my bedtime...

(going to try and post more regularly so i'll go for once a week for now)

ohh dangg its been a while.

I apologize as many things have occurred since then.

Besides getting into the program for prosthetics in the fall, there have been many things on my mind. Some doubts if I should ride this out, if I like it and so on. It is a 2 year program so its definately a large investment and so I'll see if I enjoy it enough to continue. I've just been reminded that things are never written in stone, and c'est la vie...from this point on changes in direction in life, in jobs, careers are bound to happen....I guess I'm just at the beginning of a very long road...

A more recent happening is that I got a job! not a fulltime fulltime job...but a 40hr job for the rest of summer. Working as a student ergonomist and yeaa. A job is a job so its all good, so I'm just saving up money for a eurotrip within the next 2 years. But its crazy...im taking 3 courses on top of that as well so I'm kinda busy. Who am I kidding,,,im crazy. I can't really unwind/relax after work knowing i have homework and assignments...but...only 2.5 more months. please let me get thru this.

Softball has been pretty jokes, but I wish I didn't suck so bad in the games...oh well....so much running im STILL sore from it...like mad sore. It can only get better from here! The hardest part is brushing off mistakes you make so that u can keep playing at the highest level....so hard....requires a bit of mental fortitude....

Also being in a new relationship has been quite the learning experience...which has been good...rea good :) ...I've begun to count my blessings each day and really acknowledge God's presence and providence in my life...my hellish summer will be much easier having my close friends near me...esp when I can look at the brighter side of life and be joyful at all times....laughing is so awesome....and coke is also equally awesome....the coke side of life baby...the coke side of life.

Last night was good times..was in loo and met up with a close friend and his new fiancee :D. mike came up to loo as well and so we jus chilled all night....good times...I must say it's awesome being able to share in their joy

k, thats all for now....more updates to follow when im not dying from all this. You know what's kinda sad...i think I have to study after work and on fridays...and weekends....so sad....haha...oh well. whateverrr...SPURS BABY...WAOWWWW

Thursday, April 19, 2007

I got in....woo woooo...haha....so ill prolly be going to GBC in fall, and i'll mainly be at sunnybrook. Relieved.

One more final tomorrow and its summer!! I cant wait. I have one goal: To achieve my peak physical condition of my age.

I'm gona try a new philosophy of weight training, one I learned in class so those who took kin 427 u know what im talking about.

It's called the russian pyramid, and basically the whole philosophy is to train without becoming fatigued. Form takes priority over pain, and if the form goes any lower than a perceived 8/10 (10 being perfect form), than the exercise stops. Reps start at a number and decrease as you progress in sets.

It's a very interesting concept as it focusses on endurance rather than hypertrophy (muscle gain). Focuses on balanced functional strength (performance based), and being able to apply it in every day situations rather than mindless muscle gain for the hell of it.

anyways,,,im gona have a coke float tonite and its gona be ill iight....MAD sick.

I found this amazing coke commercial and so I typed out the transcript of it.

The title of the commercial is "First Experience" and basically, these kids who live in a rural country side in africa have never had coke before, but one boy recalls his father telling him what it was like...and one kid gets the coke first....drinks it and the boys all ask him what it was like.....i love this commercial.

"I wonder what it tastes like" -Boy A

"My dad says it's like kissing a girl..." -Boy Winner

"hehehe...They're here!!!" seeing a truck driving towards them in the distance- Boy A

(Truck arrives, and unloads a red cooler with ice and glass coke bottles)

(Boy Winner grabs a bottle and starts chugging his first taste)

"Is it like kissing a girl?" -Boy A

(Boy winner swallows the coke)
"ahhhh....."

(Winner pauses to think about it)

"I hope so..." and continued to chugg that glassss

I seriously don't remember the first coke I had...and I've never kissed a girl either...but if its anything like a tall glass of coke with ice to end a long day, thats something I'll look forward to one day.....cause quite frankly, coke got it right. Few things can top the real deal, but im guessing kissing a girl could match that....in any case, always coca cola.

Been an interesting past month...at the crossroads.

There's been a lot on my mind lately. Potentially, a lot of my future will be decided in the next 2.5 weeks. I'm applying for orthotics/prosthetics at George Brown which is a 2 year program and my interview for that is next week saturday. It's pretty amazing how it didn't conflict with my finals schedule. I'm only taking 4 courses so its not too bad in terms of finals schedule, which has been known to be a curse of mine since first year (e.g. 3b: 3 in 24 hrs and another a day and a half after).
If I get in, it looks like it will pan out my next 2 years and my future career path in prosthetics. To be honest, I was quite anxious at first....but I've been feeling at peace in my heart that I will do all that I can to own that interview and be a winner....and trust in my Lord that he will lead me and that he has something very very good planned out for me. I hope this is part of it, but I guess part of the journey is not knowing what comes next and having to surrender all my hopes, ambitions and desires to Him....and in the end, having confidence in the feelings he has placed in me...

Also, the next 18 days will be a true test for me. God is testing me. I will definately have to be a true warrior...It will be 18 days of testing my patience, trust, and faith in God. I've come a long way the past week, but I can't let up at anypoint.......I'd be lying if I said this was easy, because to be honest it's been one of the most difficult periods of my university life, in which I've been stretched by God. However, I am at peace with Him and I'm learning to place my trust in him every single day and moment. Sorry I can't give more details...but it's one of those things that deserves better timing.
Either way, I'm praying more than ever, reading the word more than ever...memorizing bible verses. I'm drawing close to God each day...that itself is an affirmation that it's all worth it in the end.

These few verses have comforted my soul...
I will set the Lord always before me
because He is at my right hand
I will not be shaken
-Psalm 16:8

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything,
By prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God. And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding
Will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 4:6-7
Trust in the Lord with all your Strength,
and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways, acknowledge him
And He will make your paths straight.
-Proverbs 3:5-6
I honestly do not know what's going to happen next....who does???.....but I'm beginning to understand the beauty in the journey....getting to the next stage in life....there are things that I need to work out in my own life. It will be far from easy, but through it, my character and my very being will be shaped...I just hope it's God thats doing the shaping.

So, I'm going to leave it at that until He reveals His plan for me (could be a while...lol)

may God bless you in your journey

How gaming killed my typing.

So I noticed something interesting about myself.

I type with something I call FPS (first person shooter) typing...only typing with 5 fingers. How you ask....let me explain.

The simple fact that I use half my fingers to type has limited my ability to type faster than 50-60 wpm, but it's not something that can be easily changed. It is woven in my mind and I can't, or havent tried to learn how to touch type....most likely due to my own laziness, because it would be like learning to throw a ball with my left hand....yea,,,,extremely difficult.

Let me paint a picture of how my hands are on my keyboard:

Left hand:
  • three fingers (ring finger, middle finger, index finger) placed on A, W, D respectively.
  • pinky resting on ctrl, thumb useless...sometimes resting on space bar

Right hand:
  • 2 fingers: index finger resting on J or K, middle finger around O
  • pinky resting on ENTER
  • thumb useless

If you know anything about gaming, or first person shooters (FPS) the most common keys used are WASD. The hand rests on the left side of the keyboard, where: Middle finger on W, Ring on A, index on D....exactly the same configuration when I type 'normally'. The reason my left pinky rests on CTRL is because ctrl lets me crouch in games, and it's natural instinct for me, even though I never use it.

I only use two fingers with my right hand because the years of playing with the mouse which only requires the two fingers (primary attack and secondary function) has left me disabled in using my ring or pinky.

I started playing video games since grade 7, and got hardcore during grade 8,9,10,11....playing at least 3 hours a day. When playing a game, typing needs to be fast so I memorized the movement patterns required for frequently used words which pretty much destroyed any proper technique in using both hands and all fingers.

I don't know if this will ever change....if i should put in one month of killer training and beat the fps typing out of me.....i prolly wont since I think that once I load up a game, I'll just revert back to the fps typing....

-_-

I'll be back after i get over this...

Nothing like the real thing baby. You'll never catch me drinking pepsi. Always coca-cola. That's a picture of myself when I was nine, enjoying a summer afternoon with an ice cold coke and you can see my mouth opened wide after taking a sip and going "ahhhh". Oh yea, This was my old house back in malvern...Good memories...coke has always been there from the beginning.

Coke slogans are so sweeeet....I checked out their catch-phrases from over the last century and here are my favourites:

  • (1886) Drink Coca-Cola.
  • (1929) The pause that refreshes.
  • (1939) Coca-Cola has the taste thirst goes for.
  • (1956) Coca-Cola ... makes good things taste better.
  • (1989) Can't beat the real thing.
  • (1993) Always Coca-Cola.

I 100% agree with each slogan.

I think coke is my favourite drink of all time. Better than any sugary or alcoholic beverage out there.

All I need is a Tall glass with ice, and I'm set. It's also SOO true that coke makes good things taste better (e.g. coke + pizza, coke + burger, coke + chips, coke +popeyes, coke + WHOPPER, coke + etc etcccccc).

Coke is for winners. I have nothing against people who drink pepsi, but I have one question: Why????. Is it the taste? The youthful image and feelings it has: britney spears, or could it be the pepsi and chips combo (fritolays etc)? Cause frankly I've tasted pepsi when I was younger and it was nothing worth drinking a second time around.

It really vexes me when I ask a waiter for coke and they come out with pepsi....seriously. Why you gotta do that to me...they are NOT the same. That's like if I asked you for an orange and you handed me a sock. I can't eat a sock!!!! And there's no way I can drink pepsi!

anyways....sorry for my rant, but coke is winner.

On another note, I'm back in waterloo for the summer to finish up and I'm looking into different career paths after I graduate. One could be tool & die and the other is prosthetics....more on that in the future.

New change resolutions.

I don't believe in New years resolutions because you can make a resolution any time in the year and if you want to be healthy, or be fit or whatever, just do it...whenever you feel compelled to. The list I am creating is based on things that are not increasing my quality of life and can be taken out.

Motivation is a tricky thing, but if you mustar enough guts and make a commitment, things should fall into place. It is by no means an easy thing since we by nature live by our own old habits, but change is not impossible. I suppose for the FT working people, new years is a time where you can think about the future year and decide what you need to get done. I challenge you to make REALISTIC goals that you can fulfill.

Thinking about change is good, but not enough. It's time to put it into action. Best of wishes on your commitments this year, as it won't be easy. Also, if you see me, dont hesitate to keep me accountable for this list. It's a heavy list.

So, here are my 'changes' for the next 4 months, which might stay with me for life if the results are promising:

(in no specific order)
  1. NO fast food. This means: NO BK, NO WHOPPER, NO McD's, NONE OF IT. (this is hard for me. Very hard....but DO-ABLE.) -going out with friends for dinner is a different story, but will regulate my intake.
  2. NO junk food. This means: NO chips, NO chocolate, NO fried yummy crispy stuff. NO cookies, NO donuts, NO tasty apple fritters, no yummy passion flakies...etc. (this again will be a HUGE test, but one I intend to stay true to.) -I will replace junk food with fruit. NO POP OR COKE OR BEER....only can drink on outings accompanied with food
  3. NO late nights. This means: 1am is pushing it. in bed by at least 12 LATEST. (you scoff and laugh at the thought of this, but I will do it. Irregular sleeping patterns will lead to even more problems than just being tired.)
  4. YES to exercise. This means: playing sports, working out, running/cycling 5-6 days of the week. My goal isn't to 'bulk' up, but to increase aerobic capacity, become stronger physically (balanced from head to toe) and more lean. This CAN be attained without drastic increase in muscle mass.
  5. YES to studying. This means: reading my books ahead of time, reviewing notes of the day. So simple, so hard. I'll continue from where I left off last term.
  6. YES to home cooking. This means: eating my veggies/fruit, grains, meat/protein and dairy products. By cooking myself I know EXACTLY what goes into my body and I can balance my meals accordingly. Also going to eat breakfast every day.

'That's all.'...and you may notice they have a lot to do with the body, but this is my body and I need to take care of it. Health is a key priority that is often neglected. By keeping these things in line, they will help me with other areas of my life. I think the most important is learning how to be disciplined, and holding strongly to the commitments that have been made.

The list is quite extreme, but I need extreme measures to evoke some change in my life. I expect to reach these goals and there will be no compromise. And you might think "gee Kenneth, thats pretty extreme", and it is. Like I said, these are the things that need to be taken out. There are some special cases where I might break a rule, such as family dinners eating fried lobster and ALL that amazing food, but those are rare. Or juicy ribeye steak....dang...lol.

man.....This term has been awesome....so many highlights and good changes.
  1. I actually studied...hard....(it's new for me. My marks have shot up and it's nice to be reminded that working hard pays off)
  2. Nintendo wii (Just played with my ma, pa and bro....mom bowled like 115 dad got like 120...mad good times)
  3. Men's cell (was really good this term...looking forward to next term)
  4. Rearranged furniture in living room (yea,,,seems dull, but it's more exciting than you think. It's funny since this was due solely to the fact I needed room to play wii...it has so many benefits!)
This break will give me much needed time to catch up on gaming. This might be the best gaming session in my life (mainly due to Zelda)...heres the list:
  1. Zelda: Twilight Princess (yea...like.....speechless. This will take me 50+ hours to get through.)
  2. Gears of War (Yea....in HD, and on my screen....Don't think I can take much more than 30 min spurts of this game)
  3. Call of Duty 3 (also in HD....when people say 'graphics doesn't matter' with reference to wii, it's not necessarily true. They DO make a difference and it does enhance the experience.)
  4. Counter-Strike 1.6 (ok, I've been playing this since 1998, beta 1&4: OLD school from back in the day when you could get kills with flashbangs and the m4a1 had a scope. It doesn't get old and I recently found my ancient old school logitech wheelman ball mouse...trying to recover some of what's left of my prime)

One thing that's been on my mind is the lack of snow. It seriously messed up my brain. Dec = snow, and now its green grass and raining. Talk about dampening my spirits. I miss the sound of my feet crunching snow, or the sight of snow falling against the street lights....I can only hope there will be heavy snowfall on one of these days so we can go TOBOGANNING!!!!!

Sunday, December 03, 2006

yeaaaaaa...i realize my photos are messed up now, but really too lazy to update them.

if u didnt get to see them all, it just showed the many pictures of the day I got my wii on nov19th.

btw, wii is amazing....if you're in loo next term jus contact me and come over for some wii goodness.

(sooo...i think i spent over 700 can for all my wii stuff, but its worth it. Plus I'm getting profit from ps3 to over some expenses)

-FINALS MODE.

only play wii during break (one game of bowling or something.)

-study....sleep by 12...wake up at 8....rinse repeat lather. See you soon.

WINNER wii SUPER POST. words...pictures...video....got it all.

i think we played about 24 hrs of the wii. I picked it up nov19th sunday. So winner.

Does the wii live up to my expectations? Yes. I can't even explain it. I could try my hardest. Tell you to read the most informative articles out there, and it still wouldn't come close. So the most simple way of understanding what the wii is all about comes from nintendo's very own motto: "Playing is believing". It's that simple.

I'm seriously going to leave it at that, because it will explain what the wii is all about.

Here are some pics taken by Mike from sunday....a very happy day of picking up my wii and unveiling it for the first time. I'm sure my reaction has been shared by millions across the globe.

Theres a lot of photos, so take your time.

I am super excited. super. EXTREMELY super excited at that point. We almost got snoo'd because elliots name was on the receipt for the wii (they were checking id) but we haxored our way out of it.

Nice shot of the box and controllers...AND ZELDA TWILIGHT PRINCESS which is still in the packaging because I am saving that for after finals.

Wow the Packaging is hard to open

Umm yea.

Finally opening it!!! Let me tell you it is beautiful...Simply beautiful packaging.

ITS THE Wii!!!!!1!!!1!

Into the stand!

I'm rather excited.

Sick close-up shot for what is the most slickest sexiest next-gen system...JUST LOOK AT IT.

Ahem...I couldn't help myself.

Whoa, look...its me!!! You can create your own 'mii' and use him/her in the game!

That's exactly how I look each time I play. Seriously.

partyyyyyyy

Goooood times. Everyone's having a blast. Nintendo, you are winner.

Oh yea Jonny, adding super topspin in wii tennis!

Bowling action!!! Connie shown above, labelled herself as a 'non-gamer' got the spare on this shot! w00t!

OHH YEAAA....WINNER STRIKE!!!
